A Day in a Life of a Castle by Saskia Boddeke
 and Peter Greenaway

Since the reopening of Castle Amerongen in 2011, visitors have been amazed by the large-scale multimedia production “A Midsummer’s Day in 1680” by the multimedia artist Saskia Boddeke and filmmaker Peter Greenaway. This production brought the residents of the castle back to life in a theatrical manner. The residents may be seen in the various rooms in the castle: the noble residents and their servants, the kitchen maids and gardeners, chamber maids and midwives, lovers, English and German visitors, monarchists and republicans. Fascinating scenes are enacted against a background of the political situation at that time, namely that just following the Year of Disaster (“Rampjaar”) 1672, and leading up to the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. The people in the castle were full of hope and dreams and were longing for a future in peace. Visitors could make there own story by watching the different projections on walls, tables and other places throughout the castle.
